Tips For Making This Summer More Bearable

Summer can be absolutely miserable for homeowners in this area, both in terms of air quality and temperature. If you’re among the people dreading the coming heat, though, don’t worry. There are plenty of ways to ensure that you stay cool and comfortable over the next few months. Have a look at the following tips to make sure that you have a good summer, whether indoors or out.

Schedule Preventive Maintenance For Your Air Conditioner

If you haven’t already done this for your system, it’s not too late! The ideal time for preventive maintenance for air conditioning systems is during the spring, so they can be in top condition before summer arrives. We’re still early enough in the season that you can benefit from having it done now, though. Preventive maintenance can increase the energy efficiency of your air conditioner by up to 40%, which can save you a lot of money over the course of the season. It can also reduce the odds of serious problems developing far enough to cause damage to your air conditioner by up to 90%. So, make sure that your air conditioner receives the maintenance services it needs to take on whatever the summer can throw at it.

Install An ERV Or HRV

People tend to keep their doors and windows closed during the summer, in an effort to keep their climate control systems as efficient as possible. While this helps your air conditioner, it means you’re not getting any fresh air flowing into the home! An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) or heat recovery ventilator (HRV) can help resolve that conflict. These systems are designed to allow fresh air from outside the home to flow into it without compromising climate control. The air entering the home will have its temperature equalized to lighten the load on the air conditioner, allowing you to have better indoor air quality without having to deal with air conditioner efficiency loss.

Consider An Air Purifier

Even with fresh air from outside flowing into the home, we probably don’t need to tell you that it isn’t always that, well, fresh. On days when indoor air quality for the entire region is low, which is quite often, it’s a good idea to have an air purifier of some kind installed in the home. These systems are great for removing dust, pollen, dander, and other debris from the home’s air supply, so that you can breathe more easily and be healthier.
